Marijuana Producer/Processor on Rural Residential land

Cognitive bias comes in many flavors, and I am not immune. But I try to challenge my own assumptions as I serve this county. A group of community members approached the board soon after I was elected, saying that allowing Marijuana Producer/Processor operations on rural residential as a Conditional Use was wrong. It should be a “No”. Though I don’t own a cannabis business anymore, I remain a friend to small businesses and marijuana.  But I spoke with the community members multiple times, and attended the land use hearings where the opposing community members, applicants, and the county would spend a lot of time and money arguing their positions. Everyone would be poorer and someone always very disappointed.  I advocated for and we eliminated the Conditional Use for marijuana grows in rural residential parcels, in line with neighboring counties.
